Not long ago we acquired yet another RV. This one was fairly recent in vintage, and the seller promised he had all the equipment manuals squirreled away, and that they’d come with the rig on delivery.
When delivery day came, with all the dozens of details to be attended to, we never bothered to closely examine the contents of the big envelope of “manuals.” Big envelope, and big mistake. Very few of the manuals were there, in fact, the majority were missing in action. By the time we found this the title had been signed, and the check and the seller were long gone down the road. What to do?
Having never had an RV with a washer and dryer, we fortunately were able to get enough help from a knowledgeable friend regarding the intricacies of getting those going. The automatic ceiling fan eluded us, however. Then the light came on: Search for the needed information on the web. We quickly “Googled” the fan’s model number, and Hey Presto! we had the user manual on screen and ready to print.
It doesn’t always work so easily, however. When we looked for user manuals for the washer and dryer, we could find references to the machines, but no user manuals. In this case, we wandered over to a nifty site, managemyhome.com, where we were able to enter the information for what we needed, and sure enough, the manuals appeared.
Sometimes you may need to visit the manufacturer’s web site for manuals. Our “new” home theater system didn’t “come back” with a Google search, nor did it turn up using the managemyhome site. So we rolled over to the official RCA website and with a little poking around, once again we got our missing manual in quick time.
What can you expect from a web site? Typically you’ll get a direct copy of the user manual as it appears in printed form, via a pdf file. If you’re not familiar with the term, pdf stands for “portable document file,” which is a handy way to send “printed” information to just about any kind of computer, PC or MAC, which can be viewed, saved, or printed on your home or office printer. If you don’t have the appropriate software to view pdf files, you can get it here for free.
